GPT Image 2 (ChatGPT Images 2.0) vs Nano Banana 2 (Gemini 3.1 Flash): Which AI Image Generator is Better in 2026?
Compare the current Plykit GPT Image 2 and Nano Banana 2 editing paths on the same labelled product photos. Model names alone do not guarantee legible or unchanged packaging text. We have removed unsupported accuracy estimates; the bounded sample below is not a population benchmark.
Can these models keep product-label text while changing the background?
We tested three bottles and three cartons on October 2, 2026, with one edit per model per source photo. These are all twelve outputs, including visible mistakes. This small convenience sample is not an accuracy benchmark or a guarantee for your product.
GPT Image 2: Standard, medium quality, square edit, 4 credits per image. Nano Banana 2: Standard (Gemini 3.1 Flash Image Preview), 1K square edit, 3 credits per image. The twelve tests used 42 test-account credits in total. Settings and prices may change; check the current quote before generating.
Exact shared prompt and review limits
Replace only the background with a plain light-grey studio background. Preserve the photographed product, its shape, every visible label letter, number and punctuation exactly as in the reference. Do not add, remove, translate or rewrite any text. Keep the same product view. One image only.
Each model received the original source URL; source previews below are reduced to 1024 pixels on the long edge. Outputs are unretouched. We visually checked readable front-label fields; unclear source text stays unverified. “No change observed” is not full-character or pixel-preservation certification. The examples show that readable brand names can coexist with altered small print or product geometry. Proofread every final label.

Our Verdict
Use the visible source/output pairs to judge your task. Readable text and unchanged wording are separate checks; a valid image response is not proof of label preservation. These six selected photos are a small convenience sample, not an accuracy percentage, a universal ranking or a promise of identical results. Recheck the current quote before submitting your own job.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which model preserves product-label spelling?▼
Neither name guarantees it. Inspect the source and result side by side, including numbers, punctuation and small print. We report this bounded sample without extrapolating an overall accuracy rate.
How much does the tested edit cost on Plykit?▼
The frozen test uses GPT Image 2 medium 1K edit at 4 credits and Nano Banana 2 standard 1K edit at 3 credits. Other configurations can cost more. These are product credit quotes, not provider dollar bills.
Is this a web-search or batch-generation comparison?▼
No. The same six source photos and editing instruction are tested once per model. Web search is off for Nano Banana 2 and each request asks for one image.
Does success mean the product is ready for a listing?▼
No. Review wording, product shape, crop, resolution and marketplace requirements. A successful API response is only a technical result.
